Gifford Roof Via the 5th Floor Chimney (Three pitches, 4th-5th class) ★★★★
Approach: Ascend the stair case to the 5th Floor of Gifford, turn into the west lounge, and locate the narrow chimney/notch in the south wall.
Pitch One (5.2): Chimney up to the small window, squeeze out it and wrap to climbers left around the corner an out onto the roof. Pitch Two (3rd-4th class): Scramble up the roof to the base of the Gifford tower and cross the small fence to gain access to the last pitch. Pitch Three (V0): From the east face of the Gifford tower, pull yourself up onto the small ledge below the round gazebo like tower. Decent: Reverse the ascent. Don't fall.
Details: There is NO protection for this climb, and a high potential for fatal injuries if one slips. Not recommended for people with out prior climbing experience. In the case of an emergency call the public safety emergency line at (802-443-5911).
Biddie Tips: A hammock can be strung between pillars at the top of the Gifford tower if you want to hang out a bit on the summit.
